How to deal with difficult access

Toronto and metropolitan area has a relatively long history compared to some cities in Western and Central Canada. For that reason, buildings can be very old or very modern. For these reasons, moving access can sometimes be a problem in both situations.

How to deal with small elevators.

The first thing to do if the item is too big is to measure it and then measure the elevator, too often have I seen movers trying to fit something in the elevator to find out it doesn't fit halfway through, problem is that usually they damage the wall and the furniture in the process...once you know that the item can actually fit. Make a plan of execution, calculate the angles and speculate the moves. The movers need to both know what to do in advance, a little like choreography.

How to deal with no elevators:

Just like the elevators, measure the access versus the size of the item first, then make a plan of execution. Think of the angles that will change as the staircase inverts itself, cover the furniture with pad near the point of contact with the walls , ceiling and floors.

No elevators and no staircases

Sometimes the items just won't fit in the staircase OR the elevators. Just too big or maybe the items were built right in the suite? While an uncommon scenario, this does happen sometimes. Then there are usually 2 ways to go about it, the balcony or the roof. The balcony can be tricky but can be done, 3 men are usually required. One on top to hold the rope and 2 on the bottom to keep the item off the building, the heavier the item the more men are required. It is always also important to gauge the strength of the railing and balcony. The last resort is also the roof of the building if the suite has access to it. Then a crane can be hired and the item can simply get plucked off the roof and dropped on the ground, but the cost of this is nearly $2000 so make sure the item is well worth it!
